My name is Virginia Valenzuela. Friends call me Vinny. I am a poet, essayist, and yogi from New York City. I am Vinny the Snail: part time scholar, part time explorer. Welcome to the more eloquently stated things on my mind.
So, why a snail? Well, snails are never in a rush to get anywhere. They travel steadily, observing the sights, soaking in the moonlight, taking life from the ground up. They hold strong to their path, even if it bends corners or turns them upside-down. Perhaps they could walk on the sky if they ever thought of it. It reminds me of the importance of persistence and loyalty. Snails are deaf. It reminds me to keep listening. Snails are nocturnal. Their world, their reality, is not the same as ours. It reminds me to keep an open mind, and to revel in the mysteries of the unknown. Finally, snails are hermaphrodites. They have characteristics of both the male and female: they are fluid. They can mate with any other snail, and do not care for gender roles. It reminds me to love everything without any care for construct.
